Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare for approach
   • Latest available information for destination is reviewed
   • Navigation system validity check is conducted as required
   • Receiver autonomous integrity monitoring (RAIM) check is conducted as required
   • Flight plan is selected, loaded, checked and activated as required
   • Current approach chart for the approach to be flown is selected and briefed to flight crew
   • Navigation aid required for approach is checked and confirmed as serviceable
2. Conduct an approach
   • Altimeter QNH is updated and set
   • Automation is used appropriately
   • Approach is performed correctly and within published tolerances
   • Navigation aid signal integrity is monitored during approach
   • Aircraft is flown to a stabilised descent profile from final approach fix to minima
   • Visual reference is established and a visual circling or runway approach conducted for a landing on the selected runway
3. Navigation system validity check is conducted as required
4. Receiver autonomous integrity monitoring (RAIM) check is conducted as required
5. Flight plan is selected, loaded, checked and activated as required
6. Current approach chart for the approach to be flown is selected and briefed to flight crew
7. Navigation aid required for approach is checked and confirmed as serviceable
8. Conduct initial approach
   • Altimeter QNH is set correctly
9. Aircraft is manoeuvred to holding fix
10. Conduct a holding pattern
    • Holding pattern is entered and performed from holding fix
11. Aircraft is flown in accordance with relevant approach procedure requirements
    • Altimeter QNH is updated and set
12. Automation is used appropriately
13. Approach is performed correctly and within published tolerances
14. Navigation aid signal integrity is monitored during approach
15. Aircraft is flown to a stabilised descent profile from final approach fix to minima
16. Visual reference is established and a visual circling or runway approach conducted for a landing on the selected runway
17. Conduct a missed approach
    • Missed approach conditions are recognised and missed approach is initiated
18. Aircraft is manoeuvred to missed approach point (MAPt)
19. Missed approach procedure is conducted in accordance with the instrument approach and landing (IAL) chart
20. Obstacle clearance in instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) or simulated IMC is maintained
